Style: Arts & crafts Outstanding arts & crafts barbotine tiles
in a full flowing style of flowers in a vase
full of movement and vitality. Entirely handmade
and with the most brilliant glaze and in an
excellent range of colours including pink and
blue the natural colours forming a perfect
backdrop. Entirely handmade the body being in a
fine almost porcelain-like clay and verso combed
similar to the manner of Burmantoft but unnamed
possibly by them or Leeds Art Pottery. Bought as a pair there are differences in the
colours as the nature of hand decorated arts
& crafts wares, offered for sale
individually for each in its own right is a
fabulous work of art and pairs not so sought
after as they were. When we first started
trading the rule of thumb was that a pair of
items (in particular vases) was worth three
times the price of an individual, this is no
longer the case as collectors now tend to
display differently and are happy with a single
example. Individually offered there is the
benefit that two collectors can enjoy the work
of art rather than one and as in this case each
may have its individual characteristics, I
prefer the colours of one and the clarity of the
other and consider them equally valued as works
of art. Condition: Excellent Price: £375 (approx $474) Ref: 02579 Two very small chips just above bottom right
corner, some light scratches near the bottom edge,
a piece of kiln dirty in the foliage towards top
left side and a few minor surface marks barely
detracting from the brilliance of the design and
glazing. Condition: Excellent Price: £375 (approx $474) Ref: 02578 Tiny chips around top right corner, very tiny
chip top left corner and a few minor surface marks
barely detracting from the brilliance of the design
and glazing.
