Very small chip top edge, more on the side
barely on the face, a few other very tiny/shallow
marks to the rim, surface is near perfect. Style/technique: Floral/geometric colour
print Most interesting is that it is a print, all
of the colours are printed including the red.
Tile manufacturers in the 19th century
experimented with all manner of printing
processes judging by the patents awarded but few
other than Reynold's patent used by Mintons seem
to have been commercially successful. It was
only in the very late 19th century that Mintons
achieved a good range of colours and by then the
emphasis had moved on to majolica glazes. Verso embossed O. C. V. and England, written
number presumably a pattern number.

An excellent floral-geometric design
with a bold red flower, perhaps a poppy, as the
centrepiece. A strong rococo style border in
chocolate brown and 'gold' with green foliage
and small motifs in the corners, middle of the
sides are small half flowerheads in a dusky
pink. Quite a bold and dramatic design in the
style for tiling walls and large areas but I
think it was a bit strong even for victorian and
edwardian sensibilities for it's the only one I
can recall seeing.
