An excellent 'flowers in vase' genre printed
tile panel with boldly stylised front facing and
drooping flowerheads. Fabulous quality of design
and engraving, excellent quality of manufacture,
printed in very dark blue on white clay. (See
below for larger image.)
The design registered to J M Bennett
ironfounders of Ardwick, Manchester, on Boote
blanks and made for them by Boote or possibly
another who used Boote blanks. Unusually indeed
this is the only known case top, bottom and
middle tiles each have a different design
registration number.
Versos perfectly clean, printed 'Balfour'
(pattern name?) and design registration
numbers.
