A rare and
unusual tile from Corn Brothers makers of many
eclectic art nouveau tiles, this with the spiky
leaves I believe represents holly even despite
the berries are blue and not red - artistic
licence. Holly is an unusual subject the
spikiness of the leaves not conducive to art
nouveau interpretation, few winter subjects are
found in art nouveau and anything hinting of
christmas is virtually non-existent. The first I
have seen on this design for many a year, I
doubt I've seen a dozen ever, so rare is for
sure an appropriate term to use.
Verso very clean,
embossed C in opposing corners.
