Minor flakes to the rim mostly bottom edge,
surface is perfect, marks are printing flaws. Style: Aesthetic movement A rare and quite wonderfully eclectic design
from Wedgwood. In the early 1880s when interior
design first became mainstream and attainable by
working people not least because of the advent
of affordable decorative tiled fireplaces there
was great experimentation in design before it
settled down to more predictable formats. This
design is difficult to categorise, even bizarre,
with a frieze of seemingly random flowers and
leaves and in the lower half abstract shapes
perhaps resembling waves, or clouds, or bats,
Printed in deep bown on a white body. Verso quite clean, embossed Josiah Wedgwood
& Sons, Etruria.
