A hand moulded embossed tile (or plaque)
featuring a group of bacchanalian putti with
a satyr harvesting grapes and goat. Hand
moulded, (pressed in to the mould by hand)
and finished in an rich blue glaze. Seen on
the embossed tile sheet in the Mintons'
catalogue which dates from 1891/2 as part of
a mantel set. Rarely found, horizontal tiles
of this size are a fraction of the number of
vertical which were most used either side in
fireplace cheeks. The putto on the left has
cloven hoofs suggesting he will grow in to a
satyr, it is most unusual to see putti as
satyrs to be in any art form. Verso very clean, impressed Mintons, date
mark and factory marks. Due to the high relief and brilliant glaze
it is a challenge to achieve a good image due
to the reflections from the glazed relief,
the above image is a scan and most colour
accurate, the below image is a photo in
natural light from an overcast sky. Condition: Perfect
