Very tiny chip bottom left corner, minute chip
top right corner, surface very near perfect. Style: Art
Nouveau A pleasing later art nouveau symmetrical
design of poppies brilliantly glazed and with
the design nicely proportioned on the tile for
those who frame their tiles. The original
artwork, believed to be by Edwin Jarratt who
trained at Coalbrookdale School of Art before
moving to Stoke on Trent, is marked with the
legend 'Rhodes May 1915'. The design is not so often found and this is
a most charming colourway. Rhodes was a 'cheap
and cheerful' manufacturer opting for pleasing
popular designs in super and brilliant colours
colours whilst ignoring engineering flaws such
as lack of squarness, losses to the rim and
raised outlines and so on. Versos very clean, unmarked save for painted
pattern number. Perfect in the passing of time and really nicely
painted but a couple of very tiny rim chip
manufacturing flaws and a firing crack sealed with
glaze bottom edge near left.
