A hand painted landscape perhaps a view of
the River Aire in Leeds. Painted in slips
(barbotine) in a manner to create relief
(impasto), the technique is rare and mostly
used for the finest pottery, the only other
tile maker I can for sure state used the
process is Craven Dunnill. Note that Sherwin
& Cotton produce superb barbotine tiles
however they used embossed clay bodies to
produce the relief. Verso quite clean, incised HL
monogram. Condition: Very fine No damage to the rim, rubbing to high
points barely noticed when viewed as one
normally does.
