One very small chip left edge otherwise
perfect. Style:
Aesthetic movement An unusual if not rare tile, a design I can
not recall seeing previously and the first
Sherwin's 'R Series' tile I recall seeing on a
buff clay body. R Series tiles are painted with
a 'stiff' colour, not like slips used by many
others being rather more translucent and wth a
wider range of colours than those available in
slips. Such painting gives a subtle relief to
the tile surface. Note the white painting to
lift the petals above the background pale buff,
and the general precision of the decoration, a
top quality tile. Verso very clean, embossed staffordshire knot
mark, painted pattern number.
