A very tiny and couple minute chips top edge
near right corner, other exceedingly slight losses
to the rim, surface almost perfect although some
very slight cleaning marks. Style: Arts & crafts floral An outstanding example of Wedgwood's
barbotine stencil tiles the central cartouche
with graduated (perhaps patent impressed)
background. The surrounding flowers have
an impasto-like three dimensional effect, the
carnation-style flowerheads vibrant in bright
cornflower blue having a flat relief. The olive
green background has an appealing iridescence if
caught at an angle to the light. This is one of
if not the best of barbotine stencilled tiles by
Wedgwood that I have seen. Verso somewhat smoke-stained, embossed L,
painted pattern number.
