Chip bottom left corner, couple minor rim chips,
some wear and rubbing to high points, scratches
etc. Style:
Floral A rare tile from a famous brickmaker with an
'all over' arts & crafts style design of
pomegranates in 'dark mahogany' glaze. As one
may exepct from a brickmaker a thicker than
usual tile with a substantial semi-vitrified
clay body. Condition is not as good as we would like
being from a fireplace and showing typical marks
but it is a rare tile. There were few decorative
tile makers in the hive of industry that was the
Black Country, the major company was Gibbons
Hinton of Brierley Hill/Stourbridge, Brook of
Willenhall made a few tiles, Hamblet of West
Bromwich made even fewer. Verso quite clean, some smoke stain, embossed
Hamblet, West Bromwich.
