Two slight corner chips/wear. Style: Art
nouveau A superb design, light and elegant yet
unrestrained art nouveau and in beautiful soft
colours. A rare design, finding a good one has
been somewhat of a quest. I had one in the same colours in my
collection for about fifteen years, condition
was a bit rough, wear to the outline and glaze,
chips to the rim but I couldn't find a better
example. Then a good condition but lesser
colours to my taste example came along and so
the first found a new home. Finally a small
group in this colourway, which is colourway
number one, came along so I have a nice one to
display. It is the kind of design that one would think
would have been popular and it likely would have
been had it been introduced when art nouveau was
thriving in the early to mid edwardian era but
this, by the pattern number was introduced
sometime around WWI, probably around 1915, when
art nouveau was well passed its peak and the
austerity of wartime was prevelant. They may be
as many as a thousand art nouveau designs from
Richards alone which are very rarely found being
from the period 1912 to the late 1920s when
plain and frugal was the order of the day. Verso near perfectly clean, embossed England,
painted pattern number. Two minute flaws near top left corner, larger
glazed over flaw bottom edge near right, otherwise
perfect and perfectly painted. A few slight losses to the rim otherwise
perfect.
