Josiah Wedgwood Children Playing Series Transfer Print Tiles
Style/technique: Pictorial print Manufacturer: Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Pattern number; 357 Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: circa 1885   Super pictorial tiles of idyllic scenes of boys and girls playing in the countryside in the style of Kate Greenaway. Just six in the series and we have them all here, in super shades of sepia , they would look great fitted in to a washstand etc for use in a child's bedroom or nursery. A rare series from Wedgwood although well known of as they are noted by Austwick and Lockett but perhaps only because of their appearance in the Wedgwood pattern book as we do not see them around the trade. Lockett includes a picture on page 159 taken from the Wedgwood pattern book.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
