Victorian Majolica Tile

  • Style/technique: Floral majolica
  • Manufacturer: Godwin & Hewitt, Hereford
  • Dimensions: 6" x 6"
  • Date: circa 1890
  • Colours: 3

A great floral majolica tile, very full and assymetric botanical likeness. Very crisply moulded as is one of Godwin's main attributes. Soft colours, the green glaze bleeds in to the dusky pink background, the over riding visual impression is from the detail of the moulding, the crispness of the relief, especially the leaves.

Condition: Perfect
Price: £80 (approx $160)
Ref: 01591

No damage just one small manufacturing flaw, kiln dirty in the glaze on the top left, very minor 'fair wear and tear' - a little very light rubbing to some high spots. The glazes are very clean and have very high brilliance.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Licht surface marks are not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
