Two left side corners trimmed for the original
installation, chipped around the bottom right
corner, rubbing where the glaze has pooled. Style: Art
Nouveau A fun art nouveau design on a chequer tile
with a distinctive art deco feel. Quite rarely
found and with a super and somewhat unusual
colour combination with dusky pink and
blue-green. Art deco and art nouveau coincided
as artists gained real freedom of expression for
the first time indeed there is perhaps more art
deco in floral design from the edwardian era
than the 1920s and 1930s when most examples of
the style were softened on small scale objects.
Art deco with its regular shapes being more
suited to large scale design such as large
buildings where it makes a bold statement and is
in contrast to the finer decorative elements of
previous eras. Verso quite clean, embossed England and
design registration number.
