A nice divided aesthetic design with flowers on sprigs in two quadrants and stylised flowerheads in the other two as popularised by William Morris. A rare multicolour block print by a company other than Mintons, a technique only used to any great extent by them at this date. The Crystal Porcelain and Pottery Company would be the best guess for Stoke on Trent companies but also E Smith of Coalville is a candidate, they were certainly adept at printing techniques and innovative enough to attempt it.

Condition: Very good

Price: £30 (approx $60)

Ref no: 02180

There are five small chips to the edges, the surface is generally very good and looks well though on very close inspection there is some rubbing and light scuffing near the bottom right corner and variously around the edges, there is also some very light but fairly consistent staining in the crazing..

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
