Style: Built landscape One of this series of views tiles engraved by
L T Swetnam around 1885, this of Conway Castle
with the suspension bridge just visible to the
left. One of the more popular landscape series
still not so easy to collect the full set. Of
all Minton tiles these are the ones we find most
often originally framed as art objects rather
than fitted in to fireplaces, washstands etc or
on walls. This an earlier example with Swetnam's
monogram to the left and without the name of the
view. Printed in dark brown which produces a
sharper and more lifelike image than other
colours. When one looks in to nature for example
at leaves on trees and bushes the outline of
them appears to be brown and so just as green is
the most natural and appealing colour for
surfaces brown is for outlines. Verso embossed Mintons etc.
