About half a dozen very tiny/minute rim chips,
perfect surface, very clean and bright. Style: Built landscape One of a number of built landscapes featuring
historic buildings engraved by either William
Wise or L T Swetnam. A view of William
Shakespeare's House in Stratford upon Avon
nicely printed and tinted in quite lively
colours. Mintons rarely coloured in prints on tiles or
pot stands (although perhaps a little more
frequently) which is unfortunate as they take to
colouring particularly well. Many were
apparently designed to be coloured as they are
shown coloured in the pattern book and some
details like foliage which often comes across as
too intense is more suitably muted when
overpainted. Mintons made various series of landscapes,
this appears to be from a series of tourist
destinations, there are several Edinburgh
scenes, some from Warwickshire, the Derbyshire
Peak District and various other sites from
around the country. The majority of these
designs are found on teapot stands rather than
tiles and they were presambly sold as souvenirs.
Other series often appearing on teapot stands
are the ruined abbey and cathedral series
although again they may not be 'a series' as
such as being made for their market in souvenir
shops.
