Rare Robert Minton Taylor 8" Gothic Majolica Wall Tile
Style/technique: Gothic majolica Manufacturer: Robert Minton Taylor Dimensions: 8" x 8" Date: 1869 - 74   Super gothic style majolica tile in opaque glazes on a heavy quality buff clay. Excellent quality, equal to Minton Hollins, Minton Taylor's plain tiles were favoured by the noted Kensington Gore Studios for decorating. Illustrated on page 53 of 'The Decorated Tile' by J & B Austwick. Robert Minton Taylor trained as a tile maker with Minton Hollins, when the Hollins/Campbell partnership dissolved he started his own company which only ran for five years when joined with Colin Campbell of Mintons China Works to form Campbell Tile Co. Condition: Excellent Price: £130 (approx $258) Ref: 02697 Chip bottom right corner, about a dozen pinprick marks to the dark glaze, a couple of tiny chips on the raised outlines, tiny glazing imperfections (bubbles) on the edges of the cream glaze, one tiny piece of kiln dirty towards bottom left and one very tiny nearer the centre.
