Condition: Very fine A couple of tiny edge chips and a couple of
minor surface marks. Style/technique: Impressionist
painting A nicely painted tile of a waterscape in
handpainted in blue on an off white body. The
theme of long-legged waterbirds was well
established in the late 19thC and is found on
tiles from time to time typically in transfer
prints. This is most unusual in the style of the
artwork having a distinct impressionist feel,
there is no attempt to paint almost every
individual feather as one may find on fine line
transfer prints rather the artist creates the
impression, and a clear impression too, with
swift movement of the brush. Verso very clean, embossed Minton Hollins
etc, painted pattern number - and incorrect
pattern number crossed out! This is likely
decorated at a specialist studio rather than at
Minton Hollins works. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format and on
screen is about the size as it would be in real
life at the same distance. A larger 120 dpi image
also in maximum quality JPEG format can be
forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
