Small and very tiny chip bottom edge, light
surface marks, perfectly clean. Style/technique:
Aesthetic print and
tint One only available. An excellent design, eclectic almost bizarre,
printed in chocolate brown and tinted with two
colours. Full of japanoiserie elements, the fan
decorated with flora and fauna with a small
cluster of well stylised roundels, set against a
background of geometric hatching and with
multiple borders. The design registered to Wm Micklethwait
ironfounders from Rotheram who had designs made
for them by several major tilemakers of the
times, this their first from the spring of 1884
and very rarely found. Their designs, the few
that are known, are often adventurous, no doubt
they bought many tiles from the ordinary stock
of suppliers and it seems that they supplimented
with more diverse designs. Verso perfectly clean, printed registration
and pattern numbers, typical grid pattern of
Booth's. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format and on
screen is about the size as it would be in real
life at the same distance. A larger 120 dpi image
also in maximum quality JPEG format can be
forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
