About a dozen rim chips, tiny at the most,
surface has a few tiny very light/tiny marks.
Perfectly clean and brilliantly glazed. Style/technique: Aesthetic print
& tint An excellent tile, a quartered design in the
trellis genre with alternating flowers and
foliage, a style so beloved by the arts &
crafts movement. Sage green body with dark brown
print and three colours perfectly painted. Sage green clay bodies were fashionable, a
little more durable than white and a lot more
expensive according to a 1905 price list which
shows plain sage tiles at almost double the
price of white. Green being the most relaxing of
colours eminently suited for decorating in the
home but not so often found perhaps due to the
price premium. Majolica tiles of course are more
often found with green backgrounds than any
other colour. Verso very clean, very slight smoke and rust
stain, embossed Staffordshire Knot mark and
printed pattern number. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
