An American landscape print from Wedgwood's, 'Old Flume' (I have also seen this same tile named 'Hew Flume'). The flume is in New Hampshire at the base of Mount Flume in Franconia Notch State Park. The flume was discovered in 1808 and became a tourist attraction hence the manufacture of this tile made aspart of a series of tourist views. The boulder lodged in the flume seen in the upper foreground of the tile was disturbed by a huge flood in 1883 and never seen again. There is another version of this tile without the boulder and the artists's position slightly different.

Infrequently found, whilst decorative tiles for furniture and fireplaces were sold by the dozen and by the square yard for walls these were sold individually. As loose items they are more subject to damage, many would be used for hotplates suffering wear and staining.

Unusually for a Wedgwood tile this has the makers name printed verso, there is another printed mark perhaps an incomplete E. Another example has been seen with pattern number printed verso together with an 'E' suggesting it was the fifth pattern in the series.
