Marks are manufacturing flaws. Style: Art
Nouveau This is a tremendous tile, I find it
difficult to believe they didn't sell more of
them for I can't recall seeing one before, I
added one of this small group to my collection
and sure would have done so had I seen one in
the last twenty five years or so. Art nouveau
tiles from Minton Hollins are rather scarce,
similar to the other really major tile
specialist of the late Victorian era Maw &
Co they made their money mostly from large scale
schemes and established customers, with top
quality manufacture they could not compete with
prices from the likes of Richards, Barratt and
especially Boote. So we have a super design, symmetrical with
bold flowerhead as typical of the style and with
two graduated rich and translucent blues. A
great design that fills the tile without being
excessive, top quality moulding and superb
glazes. Embossed and indented in low relief with
a super two colour blue flowerhead and rich,
luscious green foliage. Verso very clean, usual legend.
