Very tiny chip bottom left corner, other minute
rim chips, surface is near perfect. Perfectly
clean, fabulous colour, brilliantly glazed. Style/technique: Pictorial blue and
white A super and very early Mintons Ltd tile which
will date from the first few years after the
separation of Minton & Co in to two. A
tableware design applied to tile of a
classically inspired putti apparently eaating
fruit amidst foliage in the most fabulous flow
blue so beloved by pottery collectors and so
rare on tiles. One of the earliest of the patterns from
Mintons Ltd before they had developed a large
range of designs specifically for tiles, they as
other pottery makers applied designs for plates
on to tiles. This common practice had been going
on since at least the 18thC notably by Wedgwood
and tiles were used in dining room furniture
such as sideboards and for trivets and stands to
compliment the crockery. Verso very clean marked Mintons etc and the
earlier grip pattern. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format and on
screen is about the size as it would be in real
life at the same distance. A larger 120 dpi image
also in maximum quality JPEG format can be
forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
