A competant and well executed printed tile
featuring a lyre at the centre and with further
stylised decoration. A classic style dating from
the ancient greko-roman era, Mintons Ltd called
it Queen Anne, others called it Neo-classical,
others called it Rennaisance. In many ways laid
back and relaxed, pleasant and easy going.
A combination of block printing and
lithographic printing, the former using stone
with the microscopic texture of the grains to
produce even colour, the later using engraved
copper plates to produce fine lines and
hatching. I can't think of any other company
that used these combined printing processes,
that's not to say that others didn't but Mintons
despite their reputation as art tile makers made
very few art tiles ie with at least some input
of the artistic hand rather they were industrial
tile makers using almost exclusively mechanical
means of decoration.
This is a half an inch thick hearth quality
tile.
Verso a little smoke stained, embossed
Mintons etc and badge, design registration
lozenge printed.
