A most interesting tile and perhaps with a little art history. A super and simple design of three flowers, perhaps roses, with small corner motifs that combine to make a circle of leaves, white background and two fairly muted colours, not muted in a negative way for the overall effect is very pleasing. Many would say art deco from the 1920s but it is edwardian and art nouveau.

Verso has a design registration number for 1904, it is however the wrong number but nevertheless it gives a good indication of the timescale. Barratt did not continue using registration numbers when they had expired judging from the numbers of their designs that we know to be registered yet appear without numbers so this would have been made when the number was in effect ie within three years of the registration. Many tile manufacturers abandoned using registration numbers several months before they expired to avoid having obsolete registrations in the marketplace where they readily advertised 'copy me'. This indicates the date of manufacture to be most likely between late 1904 and mid 1907.

Verso perfectly clean, embossed rgistration, painted pattern number.
