Style; Renaissance A rare tile panel from this sought after tile
decorators with a pastoral view of a chuch in a
country lane the rococo-floral setting printed
with a fine outline and the view in the
cartouche hand painted. Remarkably the entire
surface is painted, the background with a
biscuit effect, the colouring of the printed
outline executed with precision and in super
colours. Bates, Dewsberry and Co was formed around
1895 by F Bates and George Henry Dewsberry who
were painters at Doulton. Dewsberry's brother
David also worked for Doulton his brother
Richard left the potteries to work at Llanelly
Pottery in South Wales. Bates, Dewsberry and
Co's tiles can be found in Osborne House, Queen
Victoria's Residence on the Isle of Wight. Apparently Marsden blanks, versos quite clean
some clear (modern) adhesive residue, printed
registration number and painted letters M and
numbers for position. It appears these have been
framed virtually since they were made perhaps
having been reframed and stuck to board in
recent years. Condition: Fine Two very small, two tiny, two minute corner
