A few touches of roughness to the tip of the
rim, minor manufacturing flaws. Perfectly clean, no
crazing. Style/technique: Art nouveau Majolica A good symmetrical art nouveau floral design,
slightly unusual with the border treatment and
indented decoration to the background and with
fabulous blues for the flower. A fascinating tile, a Maw's verso so I
believed at first now I am not sure for I can
not find my traceroute. Coincidentally I was
recently in contact with another tile researcher
concerning a rare tile with the same verso and
he also believed Maw. The design was registered
to Maw but I suspect that they registered on
behalf of another for same design but from a
different plate appears on Richards blanks of
the same time period. It seems likely that
whoever Maw registered the design on behalf of
took it to another company to make and finally
to Richards both being lower cost producers than
Maw. The opaque glazes atypical of Maw or
Richards look rather more like Rhodes as does
the manufacturing quality, their tiles often
have manufacturing flaws but they compensated
for that with some super colours and no doubt
better affordability. Verso perfectly clean, England embossed. A couple of very tiny rim chips the least
manufacturing flaws of this group and displays
really nicely, perfectly clean. All marks manufacturing flaws.
