Quite a few very tiny chips and roughness to the
rim but all very minimal, glaze surface is in
fabulous condition for such high relief just slight
touches of rubbing to the outer leaves. Style; Art nouveau A super swirling floral art nouveau design,
with an extravagent flowerhead in the centre and
groups of leaves in the corners. In quite high
relief and indented with a nice translucent
turquoise flower and apple green leaves. Quite
an arts and crafts feel to the design suggests
this is just before 1900. A rare tile, I can't recall seeing another
for many years, and a very rare clay. The body
has spots of tan clay creating a sparse speckled
effect, very rare on art nouveau tiles (there
are a few oatmeal type clay) it was mostly used
in the aesthetic designs of a deacde or two
earlier. Verso very clean, embossed C O V England.
