Minor chips mostly around the bottom, surface
near perfect just rubbing to the high points. Style: Arts & crafts floral One of my favourites of the type, a lively
floral design with the sort of irreverance we
find in the wildest art nouveau designs.
Illustrated in Thomas Elsley's Portland Metal
Works catalogue cards in two other colourways,
it is highly likely that, indeed improbable
that, Elsley did not also retail the blue and
white version. Called named Monkey Flower, an
apt name for such a cheeky design, it was made
in Holland primarily for the british arts &
crafts clientele. For more information about
such tiles see the excellent book William Morris
Tiles by Richard and Hilary Myers. Versos very clean, unmarked, slight remains
of mortar to edges.
