A lovely pair of nature study tiles of
birds painted in red and brown, a colourway
which presents well and was used quite often
by arts and crafts tile decorators, not as
popular as blue and 'gold' but presenting a
crisper image. Nice quality painting, unusual
colours and perfect condition makes for a
rare and interesting pair of tiles. Possibly by Minton's Art Pottery Studio
Kensington Gore which used Robert Minton
Taylor blanks from time to time, Robert
Minton Taylor and Colin Minton Campbell (the
owner of Mintons Ltd and Minton's Kensington
Studio) were former junior partners in
Minton, Hollins & Co., had a trading
association following the dissolution of the
partnership with Hollins, and later Campbell
was directly involved in Taylor's company it
being renamed the Campbell Tile Co. The artist may be John Eyre, not only a
skilled painter but also foreman of Minton's
Kensington Art Pottery, similar tiles have
been seen with the initials JE. Versos near perfectly clean embossed
