A magnificent aesthetic movement design of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water, in indian blue on a buff clay body. Phenomenal quality of design and engraving, in Owen Gibbons distinctive style, made at the Broseley works.

Owen Gibbons trained at the South Kensington School of Art and was for a time, curator of the Royal Architectural Museum, Westminter, London before becoming head of the Coalbrookdale School of Art in Shropshire. Whilst there he designed a number of tiles for Maw & Co. He was also a principle in the company of Gibbons Hinton & Co. established by his brother Francis Gibbons in the mid-1880s.

Verso very clean, embossed Maw, Broseley, Floreat Salopia badge etc. One large chip which doesn't affect the integrity of the tile.
