Minor glaze losses/roughness to the very tip of
the rim, dark spot left side a dint in the clay
filled with glaze. Style: Art
nouveau A bold art nouveau design, not often seen for
the pattern so fills the tile that it is not
suited for installations with frames covering
one or more edges such as in most washstands and
fireplaces. Highly stylised dusky brown leaves
and a restrained floral design in the centre
with super pale blue flowers and deep blue
ground. Verso clean but some stain, embossed England
and Reg Appd For indicating that an application
had been made for the design to be registered,
painted pattern number. It is likely however
that this design was not accepted for
registration, Rhodes had an application not
issued in 1905 and I believe this may be it.
Richards produced a strikingly similar design
which was registered in 1902, also quite rarely
found and at times in very similar colours it
fills the tile even more than this.
