Top corner trimmed for the original
installation, couple minute glaze chips. Style: Art
Nouveau A super, lively, asymmetric art nouveau
design transfer printed in green on a good white
body. A rare design, despite collecting art
nouveau for over forty years different designs
still keep coming along, one or two per week is
typical. There must be in excess of ten thousand
art nouveau tile designs with a small fraction,
likely little more than a hundred, being
transfer printed. Art nouveau tiles more or less coincided with
the advent of majolica tiles, or so it seems
from the perspective of 130 years later in fact
lead glazed embossed majolica tiles preceded art
nouveau by near a decade. Nevertheless dealers
and collectors alike find confusion between the
manufacturing technique and the style, printed
art nouveau tiles display the style without the
distraction of embossing and majolica
glazes. On a T. & R. Boote blank but as they sold
blanks to many companies not least the most
prolific The Decorative Art Tile Company without
additional information one can not be sure of
the decorator. Versos very clean, embossed England. Bottom corners trimmed for the original
installation otherwise perfect.
