Some minute glaze losses to the rim. Style:
Floral/Art nouveau A good design from Pilkington, highly
stylised with suggestions of Lewis Day and Rudd
in its form. Art nouveau maybe, overall perhaps
less so due to the replicaton of the corners
motifs but take a flower or group of leaves in
isolation and the sense of the style is
strong. Never seen before it has an incised pattern
number. Pilkington's pattern numbers are fairly
often found stamped or written in pencil on
majolica tiles and of course printed on printed
tiles. Verso near perfectly clean, embossed P in
opposing corners and design registration number,
incised pattern number.
