This is one of the greatest tiles ever made. A fabulous bold design meticuously modelled with bold floral pattern set against an intricate basket weave background. From the early part of the edwardian era the design has elements of art nouveau, arts & crafts and gothic such that it could fit perfectly in any such themed interior, it is truly inspired design work.

Incredibly bold flowerhead occupying about half of the surface yet still not overly dominant for it has fineness and what colour, the turquoise is wonderful and a colour of near universal appeal. The remainder of the tile has character and depth the foliage flowing in a most comfortable manner. Possibly designed by John Chambers who worked at the company for a couple of years before moving to Pilkingtons.

Not exactly rare but they are difficult to come by, the last we bought was over ten years ago, a handful seen in the interim in too poor condition to consider.

Michael Daintry Hollins, partner of Herbert Minton and first manager of the tile specialist division of Minton & Co, from 1840 can be called the father of the industrial wall tile. His company made some of the best tiles and was reknowned for quality only bested at times by Maw & Co.

Verso very clean, embossed Minton, Hollins etc.
