Top corners cropped for the original
installation, one tiny rim chip, rubbing on the
medallion, other very light surface marks. Style: Art
nouveau/Deco A quite rarely found design and an
interesting tile. A jewel design, we see a few
by major manufacturers especially Boote but the
only other known registered jewel design is by
Johnsons, 1908. This is much more art deco,
though the jewel designs by their very nature
are set apart from the mainstream of art nouveau
I would say this is more art deco than nouveau.
And it's 1909, so we can be sure the concept of
art deco starting in the 1920s is wrong, it was
part and parcel of the exuberance of art
nouveau. In rather nice blues and green, of
special interest to collectors who study art and
design. Versos clear of adhesive, some stain,
embossed England and registration number,
painted pattern number. Bottom left corner cropped for the original
installation, very minor surface marks mostly near
the corners.
