The only damage in the passing of time is some
light rubbing to high points and very tiny chips to
top corners, all other marks are glazed over
manufacturing flaws including the chip bottom right
which is even larger verso, it was fitted in to a
frame where the edges were hidden. Style: Art
nouveau This is an excellent design, there are a
couple similar but this is the top one, and in
superb colours and brilliant glazes. By the most
excellent company Malkin Tile Works whose wares
were too good quality to be widespread in the
domestic marketplace. Interestingly it was reproduced and very well
one of the best reproductions of such a complex
design made. Being both embossed and impressed
the manufacture of the tooling was far more
complex especailly compared to raised outline
designs the die for which is just a flat plate
with the outline incised, it can even be a block
of plaster with the line scraped in. Made by
John Burgess in Jackfield, many retailed by
Acquisitions of London. Verso very clean, embossed M T W.
