Two minute rim chips Style:
Arabesque Victoriana This is a fascinating tile and most
attractive too. It looks victorian, the design a
bit mixed but mostly eastern influenced, painted
within a printed outline in the 19th century
manner. But it dates from around 1925 and
judging from the pattern number the design was
originated around then too. Richards mostly made embossed and tubeline
tiles but of course needed some printed designs
to complete the range. Most, very close to all,
of the company's printed designs were copies of
established victorian patterns and the company
had it's own characteristic numbering method
which indicates just over 300 patterns. Verso near perfectly clean, embossed England,
printed pattern number.
