A great persian design tile in familiar
blues, rich turquoise and zaffar, the pattern
embossed with raised outline in semi-vitrified
brown clay. A most unusual tile as 8x8 enamelled
majolica tiles are rather rare and persian
styles usually found on 6x6 both english and
dutch tiles the latter also making many 5x5
persian design tiles.
The design also seen on white flat clay
biscuit with printed outline and applied
enamels, there may have been a transfer
('block') printed version too.
Verso very clean, embossed Minton, Hollins
& Co., etc.
Perfect rim, very slight cleaning marks near
the side edges otherwise perfect. An outstanding
example of the genre for it is unusual to find
any such large tile in as wonderful
