Style: Art
Nouveau This is not really an art nouveau design but
I have listed as such to draw attention to it
and indeed many collectors of art nouveau will
include such and similar in their collections.
Its origin dating from 1908 it is rather
prescient of Richards to produce it, art nouveau
had already peaked probably in 1905, certainly
by 1906, but many still hadn't caught on. Henry
Richards certainly had for this turned out to be
a quite popular design and was in production for
a couple of decades It is an interesting colourway, quite rare,
colourway number 17 out of I guess a few dozen.
The background peach colour, was difficult,
unpredictable and varies as can be seen but it
is a great colour being a perfect foil to bolder
colours without being tedious like cream or as
celadon had become. The whole thing comes across as fresh,
obviously being in great condition and perfectly
clean helps, but the colours and sense of the
design come across as like a summer's day. Versos perfectly clean, embossed England,
painted pattern number. Some slight unevenness to the rim though mostly
in manufacture.
