One tiny rim chip left edge. Style:
Floral I do like this design so much so that I
reproduced it about 35 years ago, it is very
easy, relaxing with a great balance of colours
and a great interior design subject. For such an
easygoing pattern it is surprising that not more
are seen nowadays perhaps because it temded to
be used on walls rather than in fireplaces and
furniture. This is a rare example perhaps more for the
collector than interior designer, for it bears
an unusual stamp verso. Typically the company's
tiles bore pattern and registration numbers this
has the registration number, on the next line
the name Chrysanthemun, the next line the
cryptic cypher C,4, 12 and beneath the date
1884, this group also appears in the company's
pattern book. Above the group is the pattern
number No. R in the usual style print. The apparent reason for the special treatment
is that it is the first design registered by the
company, presumably this in the first lots made.
So quite a historical piece in its own way, the
company became one of the most productive of the
times including making the most popular floral
tile of the late 19th century. Verso quite clean, printed marks as detailed
above.
