Four minute losses/chips to the rim. Style: Dutch A rare tile this particular view I can't
recall having seen before and whilst there are a
handful of Richards, dutch children tiles seen
reasonably frequently given around fifty years
of manufacturing this is a bolder figure and the
colourway is as if set for bathrooms etc rather
than the tea trays which the more often seen
figures with printed outline often adorn. Likely also made with a printed outline,
Richards the only company to use the technique
of printed outline with painted with brilliant
'majolica' lead-glaze colours in the 20th
century, Marsden did a few in the 19th century
and there are some by Wedgwood too which were
likely made for them by Marsden. Tubeline would
have been rather more expensive in the day but
the printed outline have their own appeal
perhaps because of the uniqueness. The art
nouveau designs in the technique certainly have
a different sense of style to tubeline, it is
unforunate that they are so rare. Verso clean, embossed Richards, England.
