Very minor rim chips and marks to the plain
glazed surface. Style: Emblative An uncommon octagonal tile made in the same
manner as those exclsuively made for the world
famous Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I
have seen a few small groups of similar in the
marketplace over the years but can't recall
seeing any in situ. Sellers including prestigious auction rooms
often attribute to famous buildings connected
with royalty such as palaces and castles, I have
also been advised a court and a church. Given
the manufacturing process it would be a simple
and reasonably affordable matter to make bespoke
designs and I am not sure if other designs I
have seen are the same as this group. This group included this crown (which is
different to the V&A crown), a portcullis, a
Tudor Rose, a letter G and a panther or dog. *Stencilled as the V&A museum tiles are
reported by Barnard and others but why go to the
bother of complicated spraying when printing or
sponging (if a stencil was used) would be
equally effective at lower cost. Verso clean, embossed Minton, Hollins &
Co., Stoke on Trent.
