Only very minor (mostly cleaning) surface
marks. Style: Art deco A neat and accurate tile having a germanic
quality of manufacturing precision and less of
the freedom or looseness of english tiles of the
times. Great for the style art deco of course
being based upon regular shapes, the vivid
colours a feature of japanese majolica tiles are
well in keeping with the art deco style. Many Japanese tiles were made to compete with
english tiles in asian markets, Hong Kong and
Singapore working across the continent to India.
In Singapore such tiles, first mostly english
and european but later mostly japanese became
quite a cultural phenomena with the Peranakan
people and their styles. Many were copies of
english tiles particularly those made by
Johnsons, Maw and Richards that were sold in
east asian markets. Verso very clean, embossed Danto Kaisha,
Japan and trade mark.
