Rim chips, surface is excellent, in the right
frame the damage disappears. Style: Art
Nouveau This is a rarity, not so surprising as border
tiles find fewer applications than field tiles,
this one of a small group originally from a
washstand or suchlike all having cropped
corners. In original catalogues one often sees
such border patterns with complimentary corner
tiles shown as borders for hearths. It's a great design, I love the mauve of the
flower and buds. A design that is more difficult
to glaze paint successfully due to the true
embossing, the lack of outline on the
substantive elements. Given that as one may
suspect it is an early design according to the
pattern number introduced 1902 to 1904 however
this was made much later having the grip pattern
from around 1930. Verso no adhesive remains but grubby,
embossed England, painted pattern number.
