Very small chip bottom edge, couple very tiny,
couple minute rim chips, couple very tiny shallow
surface chips, other very minor marks. Style:
Gothic A most wonderful embossed tile in the gothic
style and with a pleasing mustard-hue glaze.
Exceptional quality of modelling and pressing,
crisp edges and perfect symmetry. Unmarked but
characteristic of the output of the Leeds
potteries likely Burmantoft's or Leeds Art
Pottery. Combed grips suggesting made from
plastic clay but the grips may have been incised
in dust-pressed clay before firing, in any case
an outstanding quality piece. Verso very clean, combed grips. Update: this design in a different colour
appears on page 12 and the back cover of
'Burmantofts decorative tiles for interiors'
published by the Tiles & Architectural
Ceramics Society.
